With it being engagement season and all, a lot of you brides {and grooms} to-be are researching venues and scheduling visits. It’s one of the very first things on the wedding planning to do list and therefore can be a bit overwhelming. But as long as you’re prepared, you should have nothing to fear! So, here. A list to aid you in The Great Venue Search. Relax and enjoy.

Things to Ask A Potential Venue

  • What dates do you have available around {insert your ideal month/season}?
  • What is your rental fee and how many hours are included?
  • What is the fee for additional hours & what is the latest we can be in the venue?
  • If you’re holding your ceremony in the same place: Is there an additional fee for the ceremony site? Are chairs provided?
  • What is the guest capacity for a seated dinner? {Or whatever type of reception you’re having}
  • What, if any, equipment is included in the rental? {E.g., tables, chairs, tableware, kitchen, bar, sound system}
  • What are the guidelines regarding setup? What is the earliest vendors could arrive on the day of the wedding?
  • Are staff included in the rental fee? How many staff are provided? What are their duties? Specifically, does staff include a bartender {if you’re serving alcohol}?
  • What are the duties and responsibilities of the facility director?
  • Do you allow outside catering and/or alcohol? If yes, is there a fee? If not, do you have a list of approved caterers?
  • What are your alcohol guidelines? Specifically regarding licensing and any additional fees.
  • What is the parking situation like?
  • How many bathrooms are there?
  • What are your guidelines regarding decor such as use of the walls and candles?
  • Is there a private room for the bridal party?
  • If any part of your ceremony or reception is taking place outdoors: What is the contingency plan in case of inclement weather?
  • Am I required to provide insurance?
  • Are there any other fees {service charge, cleaning fee}?

Whew. You may be thinking I’m crazy right about now but it’s much better to ask too many questions than risk leaving something out–especially when it comes to FEES. And RULES. Speaking of too many questions, is there anything I forgot to add?
